Public Safety Director
Steve Cooper

  • Steve Cooper has served as the Director of Public Safety since May 2012.
  • He has 23 years of Public Safety experience with the City of Oak Park.
  • Prior to his appointment as Director, he served as the Deputy Director from August 2006 until December 2011.
  • He then served as Acting Director from December 2011 until May 2012.
  • Director Cooper was hired as a Public Safety Officer with the City of Oak Park July of 1990.
  • He has 13 years of supervisory experience, which includes the Patrol Division, the Investigations Bureau, and the Field Training Officer Program.
  • He is a former member of the Special Response Team (10 years).
  • He holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University and is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy (227th Session).
