The Treasury
Department collects revenue from many sources. Examples include, but are
not limited to: State of Michigan revenue sharing, property taxes, dog
license fees, building permits, library fines, and recreation service
fees. Special assessments (i.e. sidewalk repairs) are also collected by
this department. Property tax bills are prepared on a semi-annual basis.
Tax Due Dates

The 2007 Winter
taxes will be payable from December 1, 2007 through
February 14, 2008 without penalty. Beginning
February 15, 2008 a 3% penalty will be added to
unpaid taxes. Beginning March 1, 2008, all taxes
must be paid to Patrick M. Dohany, Oakland County
Treasurer, with additional penalties. The 2007
Summer taxes, that were deferred, must be paid by
February 14th, 2008 to avoid penalty.
During the
month of March, a revised statement from the City of
Oak Park Treasurer must accompany your remittance to
the Oakland County Treasurer.
Summer Tax Bills are payable July 1st
through August 31st without penalty. They are mailed to
taxpayers July 1st. Deferred Summer Bills are payable
through February 14th without penalty.
Winter Tax
Bills are payable December 1st through February 14th without
penalty and are mailed to taxpayers December 1st.
The last day to pay
2007 taxes at the City of Oak
Park Treasurer's Office was February 28th, 2008. WE CAN NO
LONGER ACCEPT 2007 TAX PAYMENTS. As of this date
all delinquent taxes must be paid at the
Oakland County
Treasurer's Office in Pontiac. For all 2007
taxes and penalty information, you may contact Oakland County at

Tax Bills are payable (partial
payments are accepted) by cash, check, or money order. The City
of Oak Park does not accept credit card payments for tax bills.
Tax Bills can be paid:

By US Mail
(US postmark required by due date to avoid any
penalty)

Beginning July 2008, taxes can only be paid at
the Greenfield Road Branch of La Salle Bank.

Summer taxes paid
after the due date incur a penalty of 4% for the month of
September, and 1/2%
each month thereafter (up to the 6% maximum).
Winter taxes paid
after the due date incur a penalty of 3%.

Summer
taxes can be deferred [delayed] until February 14th on
the homestead of property owners who meet the following
qualifications:

Age 62 or older (and eligible surviving spouse)
·
Paraplegic or Quadriplegic or Blind
·
Totally and Permanently Disabled (bring 1040A - schedule
3 or 1040 - schedule R
·
Eligible Serviceperson/Veteran (and surviving spouse)
AND
Household income (including Social Security/Pension,
etc.) does not exceed $40,000
To obtain a
deferment, please bring the following documents to the
Treasury department, no later
than September 15th:

2007 Michigan
Homestead Property Tax Credit (Form MI-1040-CR must be
filed)
·
Your Medicare or VA card
·
Your Summer Tax Bill
